31 December, XL A.S.:

Happiest of New Years!

Tomorrow begins year XLI, Anno Satanas, and we have abundant delights planned for the new year to stimulate our esteemed members.

XL was a watershed year which brought surprises, struggles, ever-growing recognition, and ultimately many victories in myriad arenas. Our members’ productivity enriched us with art, music, writing, film, and so many other items to relish. Our Agents and Hierarchy demonstrated their eloquence in our deepest purpose—the precise communication of the essence of our philosophy to those who wish to know what it means to be a Satanist. The world can see the richness of our perspective through the words and deeds of our Stygian cohort. We stand stronger now than we have ever been, and those who earn their way in The Devil’s Fane are indeed the elite of the able, the aristocrats of our meritocracy. We are so very proud of you all!

And thus we raise our glasses to our comrades on this Dionysian night in celebration of the advent of another Indulgent New Year:

“Here’s to champagne for our real friends,
and real pain for our sham friends!”

Joy to the flesh—forever!

Shemhamforash! Hail Satan!

U. V. Ray: The Blood In My Veins

U. V. Ray: The Blood In My Veins

Our very own Warlock U. V. Ray presents a collection of his poems spanning 1995-2005, and they are pithy, potent, and often touchingly romantic. Many are verbal snapshots, tart and sensual, capturing conceptual moments to savor at one’s pleasure.

The price of the book is $9. There are now a number of purchasing options on U. V. Ray’s web site, which may be reached by clicking on the cover image above.

A “Superlative Solstice!” to true Satanists the world over.

Noel: The Original

The image above, The Original, appeared in The Cloven Hoof, Volume XII, #6, 1980 c.e.,
and it is copyrighted © by the Church of Satan and may not be reproduced without permission.

As has become our tradition, we invite you to click on the image above to embrace the “Old Gent’s” evocation of this primordial holiday, the name of which has been usurped by that late-coming pallid Nazarene.

Today we mark the seasonal change and revive the indulgent feasting of the ancient pagan Roman Saturnalia; as the song says, “Give me that old-time religion!” Fellow Epicureans, share your abundant joy in life with those who enrich you. The Earth and its myriad pleasures is forever our domain!

Hail Satan!

We hope that you will find this to be a suitable tribute to a remarkable individual whose legacy still burns with the Black Flame. Click on the image above to view the video, which is in the QuickTime format.

Contra “Intelligent Design”

To add to the joy of the season for secularists such as ourselves comes the news that U.S. District Judge John Jones has struck down a Pennsylvania school board’s plan to force science teachers to include “Intelligent Design”—a euphemism for creationism—in their teaching. Says Jones: “We have concluded that it is not [science], and moreover that ID cannot uncouple itself from its creationist, and thus religious, antecedents.” He called the Dover area school board’s plan “breathtaking inanity.”

And so a hearty “Happy Holidays!” to all concerned for this victory of reason over superstition.

John Gilmore: Crazy Streak

John Gilmore: Crazy Streak

Pages: 192, Size: 5"x8", Price: $12.95, ISBN: 0-9764035-1-X

Scapegoat Publishing has released its second book, a brutal novel from John Gilmore (known for his books on Charles Manson, The Black Dahlia, Charles Schmid, etc.). CRAZY STREAK is a twisted excursion into seething sexuality, desperate alienation, incest and conscienceless violence; a book destined to be as controversial as Nabokov's “Lolita.” The wreck that really begins the novel is also what ends it. Long past the settling of steel and rubber, the bodies and brains of the travelers are beaten and twisted by hate, lust, booze and the sick heat of the Southern California desert wasteland. This story is brutal in its realism. No fairy-tale romance or overly convoluted plots needed. It’s not ironic or kitschy; it’s certainly not begging to be loved. CRAZY STREAK is as believable as some of your worst, most confused and visceral moments.

Published by Rev. Chris X, designed by Rev. Kevin I. Slaughter and with photography by Rev. Christopher Mealie! Available from Amazon.com (click on the cover above) or direct from Scapegoat Publishing. And don’t miss the other recent releases from Scapegoat, including “American Gothic: The Artwork of Carlos Batts” which has an enthusiastic forward by John Gilmore, and the limited edition picture disk of “The Satanic Mass”, the most elegant form in which this historic recording has been presented.

Wendy Carlos

Carlos: A Clockwork OrangeCarlos: Tron

One of the finest of living composers, Wendy Carlos pioneered electronic music through her orchestrations of J.S. Bach, as well as launched the genre of what would later be termed “ambient music” with her Sonic Seasonings album, but she should also be cherished for her own original compositions which are particularly well represented when she has turned her mind to wedding music to images in the scoring of films.

Our readers are generally quite fond of Kubrick’s brilliant adaptation of Burgess’ “A Clockwork Orange,” and it is certain that much of the power of that work comes from the music wrought by Carlos. The above pictured album includes not only the pieces actually used in the film, but others that had not been employed as well as electronic realizations of several pieces for which Kubrick chose existing orchestral recordings. It is the definitive release of this score. For Disney’s “Tron,” Carlos wrote a masterpiece combining sounds fashioned electronically along with a full scale symphony orchestra. The thematic material, often in septuple meter, is extremely well-developed throughout the course of the film to deeply expressive ends. For me it brings the wonder of what magic Carlos could create if she turned her hand to the form of the symphony on a scale of a Bruckner, Mahler, and Shostakovich.

Carlos: Rediscovering Lost Scores Volume OneCarlos: Rediscovering Lost Scores Volume Two

Kubrick’s very personal adaptation of King’s “The Shining” also commissioned much music from Carlos, little of which finally made it into the film. Now you can at last hear all of this very strong work in the two volume set “Rediscovering Lost Scores.” Carlos did some purely orchestral cues, including fascinating variations on the plainchant “Dies Irae”—Kubrick sadly fastened solely on the melodic variation used by Berlioz in “Symphonie Fantastique”—as well as Sibelius’ “Valse Triste.” And there is plenty of evocative and frightening music which could well serve for a sonic tapestry to a ritual. Volume one begins the presentation of “The Shining” score, and also includes more unused cues from “A Clockwork Orange” and short scores for UNICEF films that could be termed exotica. Volume two concludes the material from “The Shining” and has additional music from “Tron” as well as unreleased film scores for “Split Second” and “Woundings” capped by some tongue-in-cheek tracks created for Dolby sound test demos.

So if you enjoy powerful, intelligent, and moving music, then hie thee to purchase these CDs; your listening life will be greatly enhanced! Also, click on the heading for this section to view the official home page of Wendy Carlos. There you will discover her further wondrous compositions.

The King Kong Collection

The King Kong Collection

A landmark of the art of stop-motion animation and special effects by the brilliant Willis O’Brien with a ground-breaking symphonic score by Max Steiner, “King Kong” stands as the “Citizen Kane” of giant monster films. It now makes its appearance in a beautifully restored and remastered print. The second “Kong” disc features an abundance of informative and inspiring interviews and documentary material to increase your appreciation, and there is the special bonus of the recreated lost “Spider Pit Sequence” wrought at Peter Jackson’s behest by his FX wizards at WETA in New Zealand using vintage methods. In this set you also get beautiful prints of “Son of Kong” and “Mighty Joe Young” the latter of which included work by the inheritor of O’Brien’s crown, Ray Harryhausen. Click on the cover to order your copy from Amazon.com.

And you won’t want to miss Peter Jackson’s loving and sumptuous remake of “King Kong,” now beginning its theatrical release. It is a worthy successor. Jack Black as Denham is darker than before. The jaw-dropping action sequences are presently without peer. There are touching moments of empathy for the majestic Kong by Ann Darrow—superbly played by Naomi Watts. Combining heart-wrenching tragedy with lush imagery makes for a very rich telling of this now classic tale. But the true magic is the utter believability of Kong himself; the WETA crew abetted by Andy Serkis trump their work on Gollum from the LOTR trilogy. Jackson also makes some wonderful tributes to the original, which alert viewers will enjoy. James Newton Howard crafted a rich, exciting, and tender score in an incredibly brief time, but I am still left wondering what Howard Shore had written and recorded which was removed in the final months of production. Simply astonishing—see it.

Happy Birthday Beethoven!

Today is the date considered by many to be the birthdate of one of the greatest composers, Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827). To celebrate, we suggest that you listen to some of his powerul music such as the Third and Fifth Symphonies, the Fifth Piano Concerto or the Egmont Overture—stirring examples of heroic orchestral music typical of the creations of this expressive genius.

23 November, XL A.S.:

Tomorrow, here in the U.S., is the secular holiday called “Thanksgiving” which originated as a harvest festival amongst Christian pilgrims who came to the New World. It has evolved over time into an occasion for gathering with family and overeating at a feast. Being Satanists, we naturally support this indulgent banquet, and may take the time when with relatives to deal out our own form of justice, tweaking those who irk us and warmly embracing the ones who add richness to our lives.

May those of you who choose to celebrate enjoy a truly indulgent “Gluttony Day”!

Magus Peter H. Gilmore

Upcoming Broadcast Interview Alert!

Reverend Ygraine will be appearing on the Spanish language news channel “Telemundo Diario” during regular news hours on Orlando channels 62 and 21 on November 28th and 29th. This is a basic “Satanism: 101” interview, conducted in English to be presented with Spanish subtitles. Spanish speaking members are urged to watch to evaluate the quality of the translation. Ygraine notes that the interview was three hours long (therefore it will probably be reduced to 10 minutes, total) and that the interviewer seemed particularly interested in Satanic sex.

David E. Williams:
Pseudo Erotica and Beyond, 1986-1998

David E. Williams: Pseudo Erotica and Beyond, 1986-1998

“It wasn’t like anything I was hearing at the time, or even anything I would normally enjoy. It was clean, well-produced, and electronic. Still, something about it hooked me even before Williams’ vocals kicked in. I couldn’t tell you why. And when he started singing, I was hooked for good. Not only did David’s deadpan voice not sound like anyone else’s, he was writing the kind of lyrics I’d been unconsciously aching to hear—grim, hopeless, cruel, occasionally touching, and almost always hilarious (in a grim and hopeless sort of way)... For the first time in recent memory, the music actually excited me.” —from the liner notes by Jim Knipfel

Nearly two decades after its original release, Williams’ debut EP comes to CD in all its degenerate glory, along with 19 previously unreleased and amazing tracks from the same period of perverse creativity. Hear Williams’ original deadpan lamentations of vomiting dogs, stolen glass eyes, and the rape of the retarded; set against an increasingly sophisticated musical backdrop of classic pop, dreary dirge, industrial, neoclassical and an early form of what would later be known as “dark ambient.” NOTE: Some of these songs were eliminated from earlier releases because of their political and sexual offensiveness. Perhaps now their time has come?

16 page booklet includes:
Full Lyrics
Liner Notes by Guitarist Jerome Deppe and Internationally Acclaimed Author Jim Knipfel
Selected Song Commentaries by Mr. Williams himself

ORIGINAL ARTWORK STOLEN

Markus Mayer: Teufel

Markus Mayer’s original painting “Teufel” was stolen while on exhibition in Rheinberg, Germany on 29th October in the evening. It is acrylic (airbrush) on canvas, 70 x 50 cm. It is suspected that it might be found somewhere near Cologne, possessed by a thief who participates in the goth, tattoo, and/or Death Metal scenes.

Please, those who frequent these scenes, keep your eyes and ears open for this artwork or talk of where it might be. Maybe it is hanging on the wall in some tattoo studio, perhaps it will be offered on eBay or you might see it through a window at night. The artwork must find its way back to Mr. Mayer and the criminal has to be brought to justice.

Send any information directly to Mr Mayer: mail@mayermarkus.de

31 October, XL A.S.:

A Happy Halloween!” to true Satanists the world over.

Magus Gilmore’s perspective concerning this holiday has become a tradition for our site:

Tonight is the night when the mundane folk try to reach down inside and touch the darkness—which for we Satanists is a daily mode of existence. Particularly in the United States, Halloween is a time for celebrating “monster films,” wearing costumes of a macabre nature, and evoking the thrill of “fun fear.” Children of all ages can indulge their fantasies by donning garb that allows for intense role playing and the release of those demonic cores, oft hidden in the oubliettes of their psyches.

Though there are traditions which make this an occasion for recalling the dead, it has been popularized as a time to play with what historically were fears directed towards the unquiet spirits of the departed. And the grand traditional question “Trick or treat?” has become a means for fulfilling an indulgence in sweets, without the need to resort to the optional coercion. We embrace what this holiday has become, and do not feel the need to be tied to ancient practices. This night, Satanists smile at the amateur explorers of their own inner darkness, for we know that they enjoy their brief dip into the pool of the “shadow world.” So on this eve of magic and mystery, we encourage their tenebrous fantasies, the candied indulgence, and the wide-ranging evocation of our aesthetics (while tolerating some of the chintzy versions), even if it is but once per annum. At other times of the year, when those not of our tribe shake their heads in wonder at us, we can point out that they may find some understanding by examining their own All Hallows Eve doings, as an alternative to our recent favored saying: “We’re just part of the Addams clan.”

So, have an indulgent, mysterious, and deeply satisfying Samhain!

The Hammer Horror Series is even more generous, with widescreen superb digital masterings of such scream gems as Brides of Dracula, The Curse of the Werewolf, Phantom of the Opera, Paranoic, Nightmare, Night Creatures, The Evil of Frankenstein, and finally The Kiss of the Vampire, which features a treatment of vampirism as a decadent religion.

Dracula A.D. 1972

Dracula A.D. 1972

The penultimate film in the series of movies starring Christopher Lee as Count Dracula. Here the lord of the undead is raised via a swinging Satanic ritual in a ruined church. Aided by his disciple, Johnny Alucard, Dracula seeks revenge on the descendents of Van Helsing, who vanquished him in the prologue. While not the best of the series, it is fun for its capturing of the 70s, as well as continuing a connection made in Taste the Blood of Dracula of linking our dear Count with Satanism. This was followed by another even more explicitly diabolical film, The Satanic Rites of Dracula. Click on the cover and other links to order.

The Nero Prediction

The Nero Prediction

A fascinating new novel charting the rise of Emperor Nero through the eyes of copyist and secretary Epaphroditus, with the concept that astrology was the main guiding “science” motivating the behavior of the Imperium’s citizens. Author Humphry Knipe is known for co-authoring a factual study of animal and human stratification, The Dominant Man, and so is well-suited to the task of bringing the power struggles of ancient Rome to vivid life. Click on the cover to order this handsome hardback offering from Process Books, a subsidiary of Feral House.

If the Romans are your inspiration, then you will certainly enjoy the currently running series on HBO titled ROME, which chronicles the rise to power of Julius Caesar. John Milius, the man responsible for the original Conan film and always a proponent of Nietzschean concepts, is a guiding force in this program which follows not only the machinations of the aristocrats, but also depicts the experiences of more common citizens. Roman paganism is presented in far greater detail than has ever before been seen, from the simple devotionals of regular people up to the corrupt priesthoods of major temples, ready to sell beneficial auguries for a price. So far, it has been entertaining, and being on HBO there is nudity and sexual activity to accompany the more acceptable violence usually seen on network American television.

And if you want to outfit yourself to follow the dictum “When in Rome....,” then you will want to peruse catalog #87 from Museum Replicas, which has beefed-up its offerings in the category of Roman weaponry and armor. Of course there is the usual array of bladed weapons, both historical and fantastic, and plenty of costumes suitable for renaissance fairs and the ritual chamber.

9 September, XL A.S.:

NATURE’S WRATH?

Hurricane Katrina demonstrated the power of Nature and its indifference to the works of our species. We are watching the aftermath, which has exposed the fragility of our social structures and the ease with which mankind reverts to an abject struggle for survival at any cost. It is a lesson in anarchy and order, and as details emerge over time we expect that the media will react with shock, while Satanists will see this data as confirmation of our usual misanthropy.

The “blame game” has begun, politically motivated, of course, but the real culprit is the “Pollyanna-ism” of the masses. People may have information that demonstrates that their living or working situation is precarious, but they refuse to believe that the worst of possible outcomes will ever happen to them. Whether they think there is a supernatural force that will protect them, or that they have some sort of luck that will perpetually deflect the disaster, this attitude prevents the taking of suitable precautions. So, when what for them is unthinkable does occur, they are often immobilized, traumatized, and thus don’t act to save whatever may be salvaged, be it life or property. Also, people with this perspective often decide that their lives are in someone else’s hands, whether it be a god or a government, and so they expect it is not their responsibility to be ready in case of emergencies. While our society may create an infrastructure intended to respond with aid during a crisis, it is not wise to think that this will function flawlessly.

We Satanists understand that life involves risks and our members who serve in armed forces, police forces, and fire departments around the world know that their chosen occupations entail serious hazards. However, Satanists enter these professions fully aware of the possible consequences, having decided that the dangers are worth chancing for the benefits that can come. They accept that there is a range of possibility that may bring deadly results.

For the Satanist, the old motto “Be prepared” is a maxim that we bear in mind, and while we work towards the best possible outcomes for all of our endeavors, we do not ignore the negative scenarios, and we do what is in our purview to assure our safety against whatever Nature and society may throw our way.

ANDREW KING: How to Placate Spirits
Emblems & Alchemical Paintings by Andrew King

King: We Must Overrule Our Stars II

GERM gallery

September 2 through October 30th, 2005

When asked about other artists to compare him with, one inevitably has to revert to pre-modern times, the closest would possibly be the illuminated artists of the 18th century (think William Blake) who, at odds with their own time, looked to the same age-old source of artistic inspiration... His work is shocking only in his sincerity, his complete‚ “out-of-our-time” quality, his obsessional devotion to legend and lore... Where his contemporaries indulge in a cult of ego/celebrity, Mr. King might just be the most sincere and “unpretentious” of painters...it is certainly neither propaganda nor agitation he favours, if there is one message that his work literally breathes, it’s the admonition not to abandon the values of our ancestors.

—-from the catalog essay by Claus Laufenberg

ARTIST’S BIO: "Before, I had utilised many mediums and formats in an attempt to answer questions regarding the nature of ‘creativity’ and ‘meaning.’ I now know these questions to be irrelevant and the activity that they generated to be sterile.” Thus said Andrew King in a 1998 “statement of intent.” He now characterizes his current artistic concerns as “the quality of the spirit of place, the celebration of one’s native cultural heritage, the concept of faith and the balancing act between love and lust.” (the latter sometimes manifested, he admits, as “obsessive or unhealthy.”)

Well-known for his visual contributions to underground music albums by groups like Sol Invictus and Current 93, Mr. King is also a regular performer of traditional song, mainly at the London clubs that specialize in its more authentic forms, but also at festivals, exhibitions and noise performances, where he allows himself slightly more opportunity to experiment and is invariably joined by a selection of luminaries from the post-industrial and neo-folk scenes. COLD SPRING RECORDS

Cold Spring Records

We recently received a fine selection of music released on this pioneering UK record lable. The owner, Justin Mitchell, has long been promoting music that does not follow the usual commercial path and his roster includes albums by such notables as Death In June, Laibach, Crash Worship and Psychic TV.

The selections we audited are in the mode of using orchestral samples as well as at times collaging spoken word and some darker sounds to create somber aural territories, many of which would be suitable as background for ritual or meditations upon the abyss. Particularly striking in that vein are Steve Pittis’ score for Nigel Wingrove’s film “Sacred Flesh,” and Karjalan Sissit’s eponymous debut album. Also demonstrating strength through shadows are two albums by Von Thronstahl, “E Pluribus Unum,” and “Imperium Internum.” Finally, the boxed set “Steel Night 29.11.01” documents that concert with live performances by Death In June, Von Thronstahl, The Days of the Trumpet Call, and Folkstorm, proving that the dark ambient textures created in a studio can also be successfully realized in front of an audience.

BRUCE GLIDER: ALIEN WORLDS

Glider: Mutated Dolphin Pod

GERM gallery

July 1 through August 28th, 2005

Born in Philadelphia, Bruce Glider grew up devouring Marvel Comics, horror movies, and yikes! baseball. Luckily, sports took a backseat to a growing love of “arty” rock, underground comics, photography, and constant doodling. Playing guitar in various bands, most prominently Philadelphia’s legendary King of Siam, and influenced by XTC, Frank Zappa, and The Residents, Bruce fueled his imagination with the bizarre influences of these bands. However, his dreams of guitar godness were eventually pushed aside and a 14 year stint as a commercial photographer ensued. Eventually Bruce rediscovered his love of art and music, started dabbling in computer art, and eventually gravitated into a more traditional painting medium. Influenced by artists such as John Kricfalusi, Tim Biskup and Gary Baseman, Bruce combined traditional painting with his photographic/digital skills resulting in his current style. Bruce’s photography, digital renderings, and traditional paintings have been displayed in various galleries in PA and NJ. His digital work has also been showcased in Kai Krause's “Kai’s Power Tools Tips & Tricks” book, and on the KPT3 Power Tools CD. Bruce’s work can also be found in The Community College of Philadelphia’s photographic archives, private collections, tagged on the backs of random cereal boxes, and wedged under the seats of mass transportation vehicles.

OUT OF MIND

Out of Mind

The H.P. Lovecraft Collection, Volume 3

The feature film blends dialogue based on Lovecraft’s voluminous personal correspondence with story fragments from his mythos writings into an intriguing journey. Christopher Heyerdahl does a splendid job playing HPL, who encounters modern day artist Charles Dexter Ward, inheritor of a copy of the Necronomicon that sends him via a dream world to his familial past and to meet Lovecraft himself.

This volume also includes John Strysik’s evocative The Music of Erich Zann (now with the new 5.1 dolby surround sound mix) and Aaron Vanek’s short works The Outsider and My Necronomicon.

This is another essential DVD for Lovecraft aficionados. Click on the image above to visit Lurker Films’ site and order your copy.

CRICKET SNAPPER

Cricket Snapper, Episode 1: Ball & Chain of Evidence

Lawson Welles’ first foray into feature films is an independent neo-noir in which troubled detective Alan McDermott investigates the death of a local politician who expires at the hands of his dominatrix. She and her husband are then slaughtered after they dispose of the body. Filmed on location in Rhode Island and Maryland, Cricket Snapper is a fictional extrapolation based on a local crime. This first volume opens the pit of hidden vices of these supposedly placid rural dwellers, then takes us along on McDermott’s journey into the darkness of the victims’ lives and his own inner doubts. The music features an original score by Scotty Stetts & Phoenix Rising, as well as tracks from Peter H. Gilmore’s “Threnody For Humanity,” and Anton LaVey’s “Satan Takes a Holiday.” Click on the cover image above to visit the web site, which will include ordering information for the DVD.

Carlos Batts: AMERICAN GOTHIC

Batts: American Gothic

Scapegoat Publishing, headed by Rev. Chris X and Rev. Kevin I. Slaughter, proudly announce the publication of their first book—AMERICAN GOTHIC by Carlos Batts. Batts’ work is well-known in the worlds of rock, fetish and fashion and admired by discerning, risk-taking gallerists, such as Merry Karnowsky of Los Angeles’ Merry Karnowsky Gallery. However, with AMERICAN GOTHIC, Batts is bursting onto the art scene with a tour de force reminiscent of when Robert Mapplethorpe and Andres Serrano first shook the world with their controversial imagery. Following in the photographic footsteps of these innovators, Batts has created an oeuvre impossible to ignore, one that burrows into your cranium and devours your preconceptions of what art and photography are all about.

Both Rev.Chris X and Carlos Batts will be present for a book signing and gallery showing to be held in Hollywood on June 4th at the Clair Obscur Gallery.

30 April, XL A.S.:

Walpurgisnacht greetings to true Satanists the world over!

Walpugisnacht Sabbat

Forty years of Walpurgisnachts and our Church is thriving.

This year we were given more opportunities than ever to explain our beliefs in many different media outlets and our representatives did an exemplary job. Even when our words were cut back or included alongside the stale old myths from the Satanic Panic of yore, the Church of Satan still maintained enough air time to get the message across—and the message is reaching its audience. A quick scan down the Links page here at our official site tells the tale: our membership is diverse, talented and expanding into new arenas. An important part of Dr. LaVey’s vision was for Satanic aesthetics to reach a large marketplace and to push that marketplace forward; our members are accomplishing this, in spades.

Forgetfulness of past orthodoxies is a Satanic “sin,” but it’s also never wise to cling to that which has lived past its usefulness. Readers continue to discover our foundation text, The Satanic Bible, and now a new Introduction, by Magus Peter H. Gilmore, will welcome them. Having found the book as a youngster and grown up with its principles and instruction, Magus Gilmore’s own perspective is a tribute to the power of the thoughts and ideas contained within The Satanic Bible. An updated biographical sketch of the author and fountainhead of modern Satanism brings this volume full circle. Without Anton LaVey, there would be no modern-day philosophy known as Satanism. But it is the potency of this philosophy and its relevance to their own lives which continue to capture the hearts and minds of those who call themselves Satanists. Copies of this brand-new printing of the infamous Black Book are available right now at the Church of Satan Emporium.

Walpurgisnacht is our climactic Spring Satanic holiday, our time for the revelry that humankind has long associated with witches. The classic image of the witches’ Sabbat involves dark forests through which the promise of the coming warmth and fecundity of Summer has only just begun to breathe. The leaves and buds are still tiny, and the unclad limbs of of the witches glow and shiver in the chilly moonlight as the bonfire builds. The Black Flame of Satan is about to leap forward in its thousands of manifestations—it is simultaneously generous, cruel, beautiful, and destructive. Was it any wonder the cowering God-adorers barred their doors against such a display, warning each other to stay out of the woods and away from the lusty revels of those who walked in the Devil’s fane?

Be a part of it tonight. Whatever you have thought about doing, beginning, creating—wait no longer. The time for waiting is over—throw caution to the four winds and leap forward.

Hail Satan!

High Priestess
