31 December, XXXVII A.S.: Tonight, at the local “witching hour” of midnight, Satanists welcome in the year XXXVIII A.S., many making this the climax of their Dionysian solstice season celebrations. We each take the time to look back over what has been an event-filled year, and look ahead to the coming glories of the new year. And we will have some fascinating items to share with you—when the time is proper.
From the Central Grotto, we send our deepest thanks to our treasured comrades who have attained so very much over the past twelve months. You continue to inspire us with your fierce creativity and adamantine will to move the world in wondrous ways. A special “horned salute” goes out to Warlock Mealie for stage-managing a deeply satisfying time-travel experience back to the 1930s for all who participated in the Halloween gathering.
Now is the time to raise our glasses and celebrate ourselves during this coda to year XXXVII.

23 December, XXXVII A.S.: It seems that the Solstice weekend brought Satanism to many American television viewers. On Saturday evening, we’ve heard that Fox’s MADtv featured a sketch about a company trying to accommodate a welter of religious traditions for the winter holiday season, and, to add humorous spice, one of the groups they needed to appease were Satanists (referred to as “the computer guys”). It ended up with the holiday greetings including a “Hail Satan!” accompanied by the sign of the horns.
Also on Fox, the Sunday episode of Futurama dealt with freedom of expression for an alien, Dr. Zoidberg. The lawyer at his trial was later crushed by a war machine brought by his compatriots, and just before expiring, the lawyer shouted “I demand a Satanic funeral!”
Finally, the SciFi Channel ran a marathon of the new “In Search Of...” series which ended with the episode including the installment about “The Devil,” which featured interview clips with Magistra Blanche Barton (shot a couple of years ago) about the Church of Satan. So, the idea of Satanism as being a religious alternative, if only a far-fetched one, reached many millions of viewers over this holiday weekend. A Superior Solstice indeed!
22 December, XXXVII A.S.: A Superior Solstice to all true Satanists the world over!
Today, we recall the ancient Roman Saturnalia, and indulge in feasting with cherished companions and family, marking one of the significant spokes in the ever-turning wheel of the seasons—the natural holidays of the earth.
May the Black Flame burning in your hearts eclipse even the Infernal fires rising from countless Yule logs. And may Satan Claws—Old Nick himself—inspire the attainment of all your deepest desires!
From we here at administrative central, Seasons Greetings!
Shemhamforash! Hail Satan!

20 December, XXXVII A.S.: We received a beautiful and fascinating project that we thought might be of interest.
Infernal Proteus: A Musical Herbal
This art object is a 96 page hardback book (cover above) which also contains four compact discs of music. Various musicians, inspired by a catalog of herbs, crafted character pieces to embody responses to their floral subjects. Inside the book, each artist presents a visual image of the subject as well, which accompanies information about the musicians on the facing page. The music itself is very wide-ranging, from acoustic ballads and instrumentals, to electronic collage pieces and even rather avant-garde means for generating sound. It is truly a fascinating aural and visual journey. Click on the cover above for detailed information. It is $47.00 ppd in US funds from:

The current issue of The Spook, a magazine that can be downloaded as a PDF file, features an interview with “psychic” Uri Geller, which is followed by commentaries by skeptics on Geller’s negative words regarding people whose lives are not based on faith, among which you will find a pithy statement by High Priest Gilmore. Click on the link to take a look.
Those who are enjoying Bloody Beautiful might also wish to partake of an interview with its tasteful editor, Reverend Doran Wittelsbach, conducted by the Willamette Week Online. Click on the link to be be enlightened.
12 December, XXXVII A.S.: Our readers might enjoy catching a new show airing on the Arts and Entertainment network. “Cleavage” premiered on December 10th, and here follows the description from the A & E website:
Cleavage
Sexy and fun, this 2-hour special surveys mankind’s fascination with breasts and cleavage, from the goddesses of antiquity to today’s silicone-enhanced TV and film stars. Offering their opinions on why two simple mounds of flesh have wielded such power through the ages will be comedian Joan Rivers; Cosmopolitan’s Helen Gurley Brown; a plastic surgeon; a female body builder; and others. Narrated by Carmen Electra. TV PG-LNext airdate: Sunday, December 15 12:00 PM - 02:00 PM
Among the “others” is our own Magister Coop, and the program examines the power wielded by Jayne Mansfield, as well as gives Russ Meyer his proper due, and it even shows puchritudinous clips from some of our favorite Scopitones, naturally including the bountiful Joi Lansing. And so, some of the techniques presented by Dr. LaVey in The Satanic Witch continue to make their way to a broader public.
5 December, XXXVII A.S.: On the 25th of November, Prophecy Productions in Germany released the German edition of the book LORDS OF CHAOS by Michael Moynihan and Didrik Söderlind.
Together with the book, Prophecy has also released a double CD compilation called LORDS OF CHAOS—a historical document about the history of occult music in the 20th century. There are many rare and previously unreleased tracks on the double CD; from early blues to modern electronica and various styles of rock music. Also included are recordings of Aleister Crowley, Anton Szandor LaVey, and the Church of Satan’s current High Priest, Peter H. Gilmore.
The European press response has been very strong, with various media taking note of this historic release.
More information about the book and double CD compilation can be found at

2 December, XXXVII A.S.: Today we have sent our E-Bulletin #2, which contains details for participation in our Special Interest Groups.
If you are a member in good standing who has signed-up for the E-Bulletin, it should come through within the next 24 hours. If you have signed-up for our E-Bulletins and it does not come through, contact us with your current e-mail address. Many sent copies are being returned, so we know that there are e-mail addresses that have changed which we have not recorded on the E-Bulletin list.
If you are a member in good standing who has not signed up but would now like to receive the E-Bulletin, contact us at E-Com@churchofsatan.com to be placed on the list. We will require your full legal name, mailing address, and membership number to confirm your affiliation.
Some of our members will have noted that we have again begun processing Active Membership Applications. We thank you all for your continued patience, as we do have several hundred still to consider.
We have posted to the Theory/Practice page Magistra Blanche Barton’s original letter, titled here The Montalba Mystery, which was written in response to an article which appeared in the Village Voice concerning Anton LaVey's connection to albums of organ music issued under the name “Georges Montalba.” A much briefer version of this reply was printed in that paper.
23 November, XXXVII A.S.: Once again, we present a plethora of publications, produced by or including our members.
Draconis Blackthorne has brought forth another fine issue of The Devil’s Diary. Contact the editor for complete ordering information.
As if you needed reminding, the folks at Feral House continue to release books exposing realms that have hitherto remained obscure. A fine recent example is the biography of Sidney Reilly (cover above), a master spy and master criminal, who was one of history’s more diabolical individuals and a model for Ian Fleming’s James Bond character. In Russ Columbo and the Crooner Mystique, you’ll delve into the dark side of the popular music business, at a time when the art of singing was at a true high point. The Hot Girls of Weimar Berlin is a sister volume to Voluptuous Panic, and documents the final carnal decadence before the Nazis came to power. It is filled with period art that will satisfy collectors of erotica. Also worth your time is Jim Goad’s Shit Magnet, written while the author was incarcerated and containing all the bile, venom, and insight you’ve come to know and love from him.
In the second issue of Bloody Beautiful, Doran Wittelsbach leads us on another journey into the rarified realm of the glories of yesteryear, and showcases those who will not let these orthodoxies remain past. With its silver-embossed cover and included vinyl disc of songs by superb crooner Al Bowlly, as well as tasty numbers by Lillian Harvery & Willie Fritsch, Sophie Tucker, and Fred Douglas singing “Let’s All Be Fairies,” there is plenty to intrigue and edify. Particularly fascinating is material about the artistic duo Mc Dermott & McGough, who live in a self-imposed time warp in absolute resistance to contemporary culture. Copies are $10.00 in U.S. funds, postpaid, worldwide.
B U A Productions, 1701 Broadway #347, Vancouver, WA 98663
Keeper #3, subtitled “Southern California’s Only All-Metal Magazine,” includes an interview about the Church of Satan with Magister Michael Rose. So if you live in that neck of the woods, grab a copy before they disappear.
The Halloween Issue (#3) of Revival Ink, which features an interview with Necro-sculptor Owen Leitsch, is available for a limited time. Copies are $2.oo, plus postage (click on the cover image above to contact the editor for details).

31 October, XXXVII A.S.: “Happiest of Halloweens!” to true Satanists the world over.
This is a time, as is traditional, for reflection on those departed individuals who have touched us deeply. Dr. LaVey left us on October 29th, 1997 c.e., and we cherish his rich legacy. Those of us who knew him personally mourn the loss of a valued colleague and friend. We also celebrate the birth of his only son, Satan Xerxes Carnacki LaVey, on the first of November, and those who have met him know what a magical young fellow he is.
Members of the Council of Nine have just met and finalized certain details regarding the eagerly anticipated Special Interest Groups, and an E-Bulletin (it will be our second) will be sent out to our members in November with details for participation.
We are no longer accepting mail at the old San Francisco Post Office box, so all who need to reach us via regular post must use the New York City address:

We trust that you are having a productive and pleasure-filled Summer season!
Hail Satan!

2 August, XXXVII A.S.: We’ve posted a couple of articles written by Priestess Lydia Gage, from her now ended newsletter concerning Satanic parenting, on our Theory/Practice page. Also note some updated links on the Links page as well as the addition of Outrage Cards to the Sources page.
We recently received a beautiful item from The Goth Rosary, which is linked on our Sources page. We heartily recommend their custom-crafted items.

4 July, XXXVII A.S.: Today, we American Satanists celebrate the birth of our nation, the world’s first secular republic. So, to the rousing strains of a Sousa march, we proudly hail our Founding Fathers, those de facto Satanists who understood that the true key to personal liberty was to keep religion out of government. Their wisdom bears renewed reflection, as recent events have made it abundantly clear that religious fundamentalist fanaticism is the enemy of our pursuit of happiness in this world of wonders. And we must stand fast in preventing such fundamentalism—whether it be Muslim, Christian, or any other repressive spiritual doctrine—from gaining an enthroned position from whence state-supported oppression of dissent can be made the rule of the land. Such “holy unions” of church and state always spell the end of fertile diversity, limiting freedom of choice, and eventually pressuring conformity based on some scriptural authority.
We will never forget the significance of the great social achievement embodied in our Constitution, as we bear in mind that the struggle is never over where preservation of freedom is concerned. Sheep tend to seek a shepherd, as it gives them peace of mind, and those who prefer to hold the responsibility for their own lives must be wary or be swept up in the dash of the herd towards a corral and its master. So, our hats are off to our Satanic forefathers (and mothers), as we pledge our vigilance towards sustaining their brave, visionary Is-To-Be.
Hail United Satanic America!
Hail Satan!
Magus Peter H. Gilmore
In the spirit of celebrating Independence Day, as well as the recent decision concerning the “Pledge of Allegiance”—which is polluted by the words “under God” and has thus been deemed unconstitutional by a California court —Purging Talon Publishing brings you some new products that express a point of view shared by most Satanists. Click on the banner below to explore these items.
We think that you’ll find the latest issue of The Trident, produced by the Legion of Loki Grotto, to be of some interest. 21 June, XXXVII A.S.: A “Superior Solstice” to all!
And so the longest day rolls back around in our corner of the galaxy, and I
receive an opportunity to extend Summer Solstice greetings to the rest of
the members of the CoS. It’s been my privilege and joy for the past six
months to evaluate your Active Membership Applications, and the depth and
breadth of your interests, activities and obsessions have been inspiring.
Long before I functioned in this official capacity, however, I was reviewing
Satanic materials for “The Odditorium,” the gargantuan review section of The
Black Flame, and there received my first look at the wide spectrum of our
members’ aesthetics, politics, backgrounds, and so on. It was also when I began to
recognize that all-important element that unites us, and which gave the
title to our publication in the first place. On this longest day, then, take the time to focus on that element, that
Flame that pushes the breath through you, through the galaxy, through the
universe, and rejoice in your own Greatness.Magistra Peggy Nadramia
High PriestessAnd Solstice greetings to all true Satanists the world over, from High Priest Peter H. Gilmore, Magistra Templi Rex Blanche Barton, and the rest of those of us who have the honor of administering this extraordinary cabal. May you all celebrate this seasonal turning with glorious indulgence. This shortest night will pass, and the darkness will begin again to grow.
Hail Satan!
“Satanic” Sourcebook
Our members might encounter an academic by the name of James Lewis (or one of his research assistants) seeking materials for inclusion in a proposed sourcebook to be printed and distributed to college and university libraries. I have decided that I personally will not participate in this publication and also will not authorize any materials whose copyright belongs to the Church of Satan to be included in this project.
Primarily, there is no need for placing our works in a printed compendium, as they are easily available online or are already printed and distributed professionally, and are thus quite easily obtained by anyone doing serious research. Secondly, I suspect that this book will be padded-out with a collection of writings coming from what I’d call the “pseudo-Satanic fringe,” the usual online rabble who have no real outlet professionally or via websites which have any significant traffic, let alone any coherent philosophy.
As the truism goes, “You are known by the company you keep.” Thus, having our materials “rubbing elbows” with the scribblings of these people would only give them credence that they do not deserve.
I suggest that our members, if they are approached for this project, decline the invitation. There are currently many routes for professional presentation of your ideas, and more are planned.

TYR: Myth—Culture—Tradition
Volume 1, 2002.
ISSN 1538-9413
ISBN 0-9720292-0
6" x 9", perfectbound, illustrated, 286 pages
Cover price: $16.00Edited by Joshua Buckley, Collin Cleary and Michael Moynihan.TYR is named for the Germanic sky god, the guardian of transcendent and eternal order.
Published annually, TYR celebrates the traditional myths, culture, and social institutions of pre-Christian, pre-modern Europe. It includes in-depth, original articles, interviews, translations of essential works by radical traditionalist and anti-modern thinkers, as well as extensive reviews of books, films, music, and the arts.
From the Preface:What does it mean to be a radical traditionalist?
It means to reject the modern, materialist reign of “quantity over quality,” the absence of any meaningful spiritual values, environmental devastation, the mechanization and over-specialization of urban life, and the imperialism of corporate mono-culture, with its vulgar “values” of progress and efficiency. It means to yearn for the small, homogeneous tribal societies that flourished before Christianity—societies in which every aspect of life was integrated into a holistic system.
What we represent:
Resacralization of the world versus materialism; folk/traditional culture versus mass culture; natural social order versus an artificial hierarchy based on wealth; the tribal community versus the nation-state; stewardship of the earth versus the “maximization of resources”; a harmonious relationship between men and women versus the “war between the sexes”; handicrafts and artisanship versus industrial mass-production.

30 April, XXXVII A.S.: On this triumphant anniversary of the founding of the Church of Satan, we administrators take time to celebrate the vitality of our extraordinary members, who make up a world-wide body that is enjoying self-satisfaction and moving our culture in directions felicitous to our values.
I take great personal pride this night in welcoming Peggy Nadramia as High Priestess of the Church of Satan. Our previous High Priestess Blanche Barton details this completion of our transition begun a year ago today in her moving message on this Walpurgisnacht of XXXVII. As noted in this message, Magistra Templi Rex Barton is exchanging positions with previous Magistra Templi Rex Peggy Nadramia, so she now assumes the chair of the Council of Nine and will continue to contribute her wisdom towards the evolution of the Church of Satan, as well as pursuing her own projects that continue to expound her insights gained during her many years working at the side of Dr. LaVey.
This past year has been one of great pleasure for me, and I wanted to share a metaphor I have used to explain my conception of my position and duties as your High Priest. Since I am a musician, having studied both conducting and composition, I often tend to cast my imagery based on this significant part of my creative practice. I see the Church of Satan as resembling a vast symphony orchestra of diabolical virtuosos, each with skills in playing their unique instrumentstheir talents. I am now the conductor and music director of this esteemed ensemble, and the score of which I lead us in performance is the philosophy of Satanism created by Anton LaVey and embodied in his many works. As is the regular practice of conductors, I have studied both the historical context as well as made an in-depth analysis of Dr. LaVeys score, so that my interpretation is authoritative. Having worked for many years directly with the composer has also provided me with necessary insights into his unique methods and means. This Sinfonia Diabolica, which we perform with the maximum engagement of our passions, is one with many concertante passages, calling for players to come forth from the texture of the ensemble and sing solo with great ardor. It is a score that also allows for cadenzaspassages wherein soloists soar in brilliant improvisation based on the materials of the score itself. And also it is a score which allows for continued expansionever more colorful elaborations of its orchestration as conditions change and evolving possibilities present themselves. Those who are not well-versed in classical music performance might not be aware that it has long been the practice of conductors to adjust the scores they are performing to take advantage of the continuing development of the instruments in the orchestra, facilitating greater expression of the intentions of the composer. And so it is my task to evolve the implementation of Maestro LaVeys philosophical masterpiece, as I do my utmost to inspire you all in this continuing concert of inspired music arising from the very heart of the Inferno.
The Church of Satan has always been a laboratory for experimentation in evolving an organization of radical individualism, and that process continues. Towards that end, our specific Special Interest Groups are soon to be announced via E-Bulletin to our members (we are completing our organization of the methods for their functioning), and will thus launch a new phase in creative exchange. While it has been our past practice to have small-scale gatherings of productive members, this last Halloween marked our first large-scale coming together of outstanding individuals. Reverend Ventrue, abetted by his talented cohorts Witch Hecate and Reverends Sprague and Kennedy, made it possible for a celebratory fellowship of hand-picked invitees to assemble in the Dallas area. It was truly an energizing time, galvanizing new projects as well as providing indulgence in many shared passionspromoting a veritable chain-reaction of reinforced ideas and goals. The security was very tight, and this contributed to it being a great success. We will continue with further such experiments, choosing participants with care so that our yield will be of the highest order.
We have been hard at work in acknowledging the many Active Membership Applications that have been pending, and many of you will have by now received your certificates welcoming you to the first degree as Satanists in the Church of Satan. We still have many more to process, and it is our goal to forge ahead and thus open the gates for those who patiently await.
In celebration of this Walpurgisnacht, Reverend Matt Paradise has released his first book, The Book of Satanic Quotations. Click on the image below to visit his site and order this excellent collection of Infernal ammunition.
My deepest thanks go to the treasured individuals who have added their strengths towards our shared vision over this last yearyou continue to earn my love and respect, as you honor me as well as the work of Dr. LaVey, with your inestimable contributions.
So, in the name of High Priestess Nadramia, Magistra Templi Rex Barton, and myself, I send forth our darkest blessings to all of our members and true Satanists the world over. May you celebrate this night of nights with abundant pleasure and extraordinary satisfaction. We bear a legacy, crystallized and identified by our founder Anton Szandor LaVey, that has come forth from the shadows to claim its dueit is a glorious time to be a Satanist.
Hail Anton Szandor LaVey!
Hail Satan!

11 April, XXXVII A.S.: Today Satanists around the world celebrate the anniversary of Dr. LaVeys birth.
During his amazingly vital life, Anton Szandor LaVeysurely one of the mighty-mindedrode the whirlwind of iconoclasm and left an indelible mark on our society. Founding contemporary Satanism, he was its foremost living exemplar. He embodied its principles first in a church consecrated in the name of Satan and subsequently in an extraordinary series of books. These achievements have touched millions of people around the globe. The reverberations sounded by his philosophical voice shall echo down the corridors of human history, a clangorous tocsin that brings fear to the hearts of those who would stifle individualism, while inspiring his kindred to claim and guard their heritage with pride.
Beyond his successes as a philosopher and religious innovator, LaVey also excelled as an artist, both visual and musical. The few individuals who were honored with a concert by the Maestro in the alchemical kitchen of the Black House, or in the diabolical Den of Iniquity, will never forget those stirring and seductive tunes, evoked as one of Dr. LaVeys favorite means for sharing his deepest essence.
For those of us who knew him, he won our love and constantly lives in our minds and hearts. For those whose sense of self has been ignited by his works, he lives for them as a vivid mentor, who bestowed the rare gift of undefiled wisdom.
All of us will spend time today in cherishing our memories of this extraordinary man.
Hail Anton Szandor LaVey!
Hail Satan!

Heres an old treasure, finally re-issued by the redoubtable Feral House. Long out-of-print and fetching high prices through book search services, Kings lurid classic explores sexuality in magic ranging from fertility cults, to Eastern Tantric practices, and ultimately finishes off with Crowley and Reich (with even some brief mentions of the Church of Satan along the way!). Definitely a must-have book; you may click on the above cover to order this tantalizing title directly from Amazon.com.
If you happenened to be in Portland Oregon during March, you might have come across Issue #102 of Street Times, which included a brief interview with High Priest Gilmore. This publication bills itself as The Voice of Portlands Mean Streets and it is written by street youth for street youth and is published by Outside In, 1132 SW 13th Ave., Portland, OR 97205-1703.
Finally, Magister Boyd Rice returned to New York City for a triumphant concert with co-conspirator Douglas P of Death In June. The venue was a performance space at the end of a pier jutting into the Hudson River, and during the event the elements stormed, adding to the apocalyptic mood. Also part of the performance space is a moored boat that had been raised from the depths after sinking, the interior of which looks like a Giger painting!
This proved to be a gathering point for many Church of Satan members and officialsincluding High Priest Gilmore and Magistra Templi Rex Nadramia some who are local, but others who traveled from as far away as California and Florida. Reptilian Records and Predatory Instinct Productions manned a table with an absolute bounty of Satanic merchandise. The days leading up to and following this concert included a number of smaller gatherings of members and officials who conferred on issues of passion and import but, more importantly, enjoyed each others company. A new installment of David Harris Satanism Today was recorded, featuring Kevin Slaughter, and outings included a visit to The Jewish Museum to view the controversial exhibition, Mirroring Evil: Nazi Imagery / Recent Art.
It was an exhilarating and productive time for all who participated.
4 April, XXXVII A.S.: Today weve added Lex Talionis! to a new Legal Issues heading on our Theory/Practice page. 20 March, XXXVII A.S.: To true Satanists everywhere, may you enjoy an Exquisite Equinox today! In celebration, I shall listen to Stravinskys The Rite of Spring for its lyrical ferocity, so apt for banishing the barren Winter and welcoming the fecund Spring (suggested recording: Ben Zander leading the Boston Philharmonicthe only one brave enough to follow the composers original tempi).
So, on behalf of High Priestess Blanche Barton and Magistra Templi Rex Peggy Nadramia, our blessings are upon you for abundant joy in this new season.
Hail Satan!

5 March, XXXVII A.S.: Another one of San Franciscos unique possessions is facing destruction. The Musée Méchanique, a repository of wonderful mechanical devices, is currently threatened with demolition and the dispersal of its collection. It was a favored haunt of Dr. LaVey, and this should not be surprising as where else would one find an orchestrion that plays Yankee Rose? In recent years it included a room with video games to draw in the kids, but even that didnt overwhelm the real time travel value of its treasures.

Electric Hellfire ClubEHC frontman Thomas Thorn is currently considering submissions for a compilation album entitled U.nited S.atanic A.mericawhich he initiated in response to the wave of God Bless America fervor that swept the nation following the September 11th tragedy. Thorn hopes to help show the world that religion and patriotism are far from synonymous. On the contrary, he maintains, religious fundamentalism lies at the root of not only the attacks on NYC & DC, but most of the serious conflicts facing our world. A NEW BLOOD AXIS RELEASE
ABSINTHE: La Folie Verte
[Athanor, ATNR 017]
This long-awaited collaboration by Blood Axis and the
French group Les Joyaux de la Princesse is now available.A century ago, the Green Hour was the most important time of day for many a lost soul. It was then that the cafés of Paris filled to the brim with laborers, artists, painters and poets, and the Absinthe began to pour forth into countless glasses. With a splash of water over a sugar cube perched on a perforated spoon, the opaline elixir was ready and the fog of green madness descended over the world.
Today, two of the most notorious music projects of the undergroundthe American inner expatriates Blood Axis and the nostalgic French aesthetes Les Joyaux de la Princessehave conspired to unveil their long-awaited homage to this infamous intoxicant. With Absinthe: La Folie Verte (Absinthe: Green Madness) they present the fruit of their reveries: a dreamlike journey through the addled mind of the Absintheur.
Absinthe: La Folie Verte is a sonic and poetic invocation combining mind-altering music and powerful recitations of Absinthe-inspired poems of the fin-de-siècle. These elements are united with a brilliant graphic presentation to conjure an emerald realm of euphoric delirium. This is also one of the most obsessive recordings ever made: the various melodies that float across these soundscapes derive from forgotten Absinthe songs of the past; actual elements of the latter, derived from old cylinder recordings and 78s, have been carefully stirred and distilled into new formulations by Les Joyaux de la Princesse. Furthermore, all aspects of this albuminstrumentation, spoken recitations, and even the final mixingwere executed under the influence of the drink. The end result is an impressionistic tour-de-force and the ultimate aural hymn to la fée verte, the Green Fairy.
Following the CD version, Athanor will issue a special limited edition boxset containing a book, various printed pieces, and two 10" picture discs with remixes from Absinthe: La Folie Verte as well as live recordings from the debut performance of this material, which was presented on stage in Portugal by Blood Axis and Les Joyaux de la Princesse in October of 2001.Copies of this full-length CD have been imported from France

And from our intrepid Reverend Leyba comes the following press update:
UNSPEAKABLE, The Life and Art of Reverend Steven Johnson Leyba
a film by Marc Rokoff
(Documentary/80min./2001/USA)
Reverend Steven Johnson Leyba is the kind of man who will paint all over the American flag, then remind you that flag etiquette has been royally pissed on by most major designers without anyone raising an eyebrow. He will have a swastika cut into his back while reminding you that this is an ancient symbol, then hell wonder aloud how many people were killed in the name of the sanctified Holy Cross. He is known in the underground art world as the Father of Sexpressionism. The man views every kind of bodily excretion as a viable medium with which to paint. He is deeply in touch with his Native American ancestry. These juxtapositions may seem like a lot to ponder, but they represent just a scratch on the surface of this complex artist. For nearly two years, Reverend Leyba permitted the filmmakers cameras to observe his life, his art, and his infamous personal rituals. Some of this extraordinarily unique footage charts a terrain of human behavior that has rarely, if ever, been explored within the documentary form.
The Reverends prolific and varied artistic output reflects his unyielding political and religious opinions. UNSPEAKABLE captures the unusual behavior of this Satanic priest and takes a firsthand look at the issues that propel his work. The film hops from one inimitable character to the next as they grapple with topics ranging from the denial of the American Holocaust, to the discovery of new ways to make an explosively sexual/political statement with a whiskey bottle.
Such luminaries as Church of Satan High Priestess Blanche Barton, photographer-anthropologist Charles Gatewood, and President of the Tom of Finland Foundation, Durk Dehner, guide us through a journey of Sex and Satan, a sneak peek at radical art and raging performances.
The resulting portrait is of an artist with a perversely brilliant vision. He has both humor and fury. He is grotesque, yet possesses the UNSPEAKABLE beauty of a man free enough to confront and embrace the full range of his own sexuality.
The World Premiere will be at the San Francisco Independent film Festival,New College: February 3 at 9:15 pm741 Valencia at 18th, and then at
Studio Z (The old Transmission Theatre): February 6 at 9:30 pm314 11th St. at Folsom.
Reverend Leyba lives locally in San Francisco and will be present for the screening of UNSPEAKABLE.
Reverend Steven Johnson Leyba can be contacted at satanicapache@hotmail.com, or see www.satanicapache.com.
