31 December, XXXV A.S.: Some food for thought from The Satanic Rituals by Anton Szandor LaVey.
THE UNKNOWN KNOWN
Despite others’ attempts to identify a certain number with Satan, it will be known that Nine is His number. Nine is the number of the Ego, for it always returns to itself. No matter what is done through the most complex multiplication of Nine by any other number, in the final equation Nine alone will stand forth.
The true ages of time are cast in the likeness of Nine, with all cycles obedient to its Law. All matters of terrestrial concern may be evaluated by the infallible resolution of Nine and its offspring. Action and reaction relative to humanity’s tribal needs are contained within successive nine-year periods: the total of both (eighteen years) is called a Working. The beginning and end of each Working is called a Working Year, and each midway point between the Working Years displays a zenith of intensity for the Working which has been brought about.

The twentieth century has prepared us for the future and the coming of the Age of Fire was well heralded in the last Working Years of the Ice Age. The peoples of the earth have been touched by the vehicles of 1894, 1912, 1930, and 1948, and communication has been well wrought. The new Satanic Age was born in 1966, and that is why His Church was built.
The infant is learning to walk, and by the first Working Year of his age—that is to say 1984—he will have steadied his steps, and by the next—2002—he will have attained maturity, and his reign will be filled with wisdom, reason, and delight.

If you are a member and have submitted a link request, but it has not yet been added by today, and you haven’t been in contact with us during the last week, please send us an e-mail reminder and we’ll make certain to consider your request again.
Please note that we’ve recently discovered that some e-mail to our addresses has sometimes vanished, neither bouncing back nor being received by us. If you’ve attempted to contact us on an urgent matter, and haven’t heard back in quite a while, please contact us again to make certain we receive your note (and include a copy of the original mailing). Because of the high volume of mail we receive on a daily basis, we don’t guarantee an immediate response, but we do attempt to answer within two weeks. Also, please remember to quote the previous exchange in an e-mail response that is discussing an ongoing matter. That makes communication more efficient for all concerned.
2 November, XXXV A.S.: We trust that Satanists everywhere enjoyed a Superlative Samhain. Here in Manhattan, we celebrated the eve with a gathering of truly infernal individuals, and the festivities lasted until almost cock-crow.
Magister Gilmore had a great deal of fun on the Chaunce Hayden Show on the evening of October 29th, and you should be able to find this archived for the next week or so at www.eyada.com. He also traded quips with Ahmet Zappa on the Ahmet & Kennedy Show on www.comedyworld.com on the morning of Halloween.

29 October, XXXV A.S.: Today, Satanists around the globe mark the third anniversary of the death of our founder, Anton Szandor LaVey, through reflection. Not, as some might think, on the loss of what more we would have had, should he still be here, but on the remarkable richness of the legacy which he created and left to us. Anton LaVey lived a very full and rich life, and he will always serve as an exemplar to us all as to how we should seize the day, as well as the night, to bring forth all the joy that is humanly attainable.
We are saddened that his vital consciousness and diabolical sense of humor are no longer present to give us his uniquely fresh insights, but we are continually enriched through his many works, which we may savor again and again. We are renewed and inspired by this precious gift, and he will always live in our hearts and minds with a truly infernal vitality.

16 October, XXXV A.S.: As you all might expect, this pending Halloween season has wrought a whirlwind of public relations activity in our offices. Magister Gilmore did a brief interview for a wire service about the recent group of devil-themed films, and this has prompted several radio interviews with him, with more to come. Last night GROUND ZERO (based in Portland but available online and in syndication) hosted a two and a half hour discussion of Satanism with Gilmore, with a surprise guest, Magister Rex Church, in the last half hour. If we have sufficient notice, we’ll alert you to upcoming broadcasts.
Also, keep on the lookout for a documentary about Ricky Kasso, tentatively set to air the evening of November 5th on The Discovery Channel. This features a look at the infamous killer, and includes an interview with Gilmore as well as some ritual footage.
Both Magister Gilmore and High Priestess Barton will be participating in the WebFest, promoting the sequel to the popular Blair Witch film, Blair Witch 2—Book of Shadows. The WebFest runs from Wednesday the 18th through Friday the 20th of October, and you’ll be able to catch them on Thursday evening. Visit the WebFest site for details.
They are both also working on material for a Japanese primetime show, Fuji Television’s Unbelievable. We’ll let you know when this is scheduled to air.
Magister Gilmore’s picture appeared in two tabloids within the last couple of weeks. The British Star (we haven’t seen it yet) had an article about Satanism with Gilmore’s picture as an illustration, and the wonderfully fictional Weekly World News (October 11th issue) had a phony story about “Satan’s Witnesses” (the darkside equivalent of the Jehovah’s Witnesses) which used a picture of Gilmore with the caption explaining that he was not one of these door-to-door Devil peddlars.
The September/October issue of MEAN has a feature story about Anton LaVey, and it also covered Charles Manson, Kenneth Anger and Christopher Lee (not to mention Chris Rock, who definitely has a bit of Old Scratch in him). This story is typical contemporary journalism (error-filled and too hip), but the underbar “Timeline of the Devil” has some fun items included.
The November 2000 issue of SPIN has an article “Now Playing: Web Radio” which includes the Church of Satan’s very own Honey Hellfire (pictured below). You can click on her image to hear her audio conflagration on Radio Free Satan.
Don’t miss the latest issue (#4) of that superfine magazine GICK!, which focuses this time on Filipino horror films.

10 July, XXXV A.S.: We note the loss of a cherished comrade, John C. Davis. Please click on his name to view a memorial to him.
We are now working to pack up and ship out the new issue of The Black Flame to subscribers this week. It is going out in waves, so please be patient, you will soon have it in your hot little hands. And those who haven’t subscribed will soon begin to see it on the shelves at Tower stores worldwide, and also with many other fine vendors of magazines.
People keep asking, so here’s a rundown on some recent media work. We’ve been busy with several upcoming documentaries, and offer a “heads up” to the folks in Australia who will be able to catch Magister Gilmore in the next month or so on an episode of Universal Television’s 13th Street news series Evil. The subject of the episode is, naturally, The Devil.
Other spots to come are here in the United States: History’s Mysteries on The History Channel with High Priestess Blanche Barton, two shows for The Discovery Network, one of which is a documentary on Ricky Kasso which features an interview with Magister Gilmore (with some ritual footage), and another documentary on unusual religions which includes ritual footage lead by Magister Rex Church in his Asylum of Satan with the participation of High Priestess Blanche Barton—both High Priestess Barton and Magister Church were interviewed as well. All of these are now “in the can,” and await airing.
In print, residents of Latvia were treated to a fascinating interview with High Priestess Barton in the March issue of Rigas Laiks. We’ll eventually post the full version of that text in our interview section.
We’ve heard that the Roger Bolton documentary The Devil—The Unauthorized Biography was again broadcast in South Africa quite recently. This features an interview with Magister Gilmore and footage of a “Black Mass” shot in New York’s notorious Hellfire Club.
And we’re currently working on pieces for the BBC and French television, so the international onslaught continues! We’ll announce when we know any broadcast shedules, but such things are often difficult to predict (sometimes these shows don’t air until almost a year after being filmed).
When we find some spare time, we’ll post some stills from our appearance on the Polish television show FRONDA as well as the more recent A & E episode of The Unexplained entitled 666: The Sign of Evil. 15 June, XXXV A.S.: Today we begin adding our backlog of translations of current pages. The Danish pages have been posted, look for other languages in the coming week.
13 June, XXXV A.S.: The Mephisto Grotto of the Church of Satan launched its RadioFree Satan show on June 6, featuring a variety of talented people active within the Church of Satan presenting audio works to entertain and inspire other Satanists. Click on the link to give it a listen. In addition, they have an e-announcement list for anyone who wishes to sign up. From their description: “Not just another streaming music service, but real DJs, radio personalities, interviews, news, reviews, and more—24 hours a day, 365 days a year!” Who could resist?
We are now working on preparing a large amount of pages for this site in languages other than English, and will begin posting some of them this week.
It now looks like The Black Flame will be shipped from our printer during the final week of this month, meaning that it will soon thereafter hit the stands and be on the way to subscribers.

31 May, XXXV A.S.: We think you won’t want to miss a segment of the Arts & Entertainment Network’s show The Unexplained, scheduled to air on Sunday, June 4 (1:00 pm EST—check your local listings). This one features a humorous look at the superstitions surrounding the number 666, and includes material featuring Church of Satan members. This was shot last summer, so we aren’t certain regarding what footage will be used in the finished segment.
There are several other shows in the can concerning the Church of Satan, and once these are nearing their air dates, we’ll let you know about them.
The Black Flame is at the printer, so once we have an update as to delivery schedule, we’ll announce it here.
Finally, we recently contacted the realtor concerning The Black House, and they confirmed their original intentions to proceed with demolition. Being that real estate values in San Francisco are at an all-time high, there is far more money to be made with replacing the current damaged structure with a new multi-unit condominium, so it is quite possible that such will be their plan.
The house will continue to exist as an archetype—as Dr. LaVey would say, “It has served its purpose,” and will be the fountainhead for similar citadels which will be brought into existence by other Satanists the world over.

30 April, XXXV A.S.: A “Wicked Walpurgisnacht!” to all members and true Satanists who walk the night on this eventful eve. We mark the anniversary of the founding of our Church with all the pomp, mystery, and joyous celebration of which we are capable. Here in New York City, we are solemnizing the nuptials of Mr. and Mrs. John C. Davis—Hail Jacqueline and John! In the great white North of Canada, Robert Lang and Diana DeMagis, editors of The Black Pun-kin, will be presenting a Grand Sabbat, which also marks the debut of Magister Rose’s new magazine, Sinister. On this night, there are many other gatherings as well as solitary rituals, and through all flows the lambent darkness of the Black Flame, a fiery river of passion in which is embodied the true essence of Satanism. We mount the conflagration of our every growing triumphs.
Speaking for myself, as well as High Priestess Barton, Magistra Nadramia, and the rest of our brilliant hierarchy, I must let you know that our thoughts are with you all, dear brethren. May this night bring satisfaction and vivification, as we move forward into the Satanic Century.

We’re in the home stretch with completing the new issue of “The Black Flame,” so we’ll get back to updating this site when that has gone to press. 10 January, XXXV A.S.: The Hamilton Spectator (a Canadian newspaper) covered the funeral of long-time member Marguerite Thompson (a true Satanic Witch). The article makes several minor errors (such as calling us “Satan worshippers”) and the funeral rite was authored by Magister Peter H. Gilmore (who actually resides in New York City, not California). This will be available (along with his Satanic Wedding rite) in his upcoming book Satanic Scriptures, which will be published by Hell’s Kitchen Productions later this year (it will be announced on this site).
