We continue to be enriched by the amazing productivity of our extraodinary members and so on this night of the greatest legendary “witches’ sabbath” we revel in the dark glory evidenced by this unstoppable tide of vitality which sweeps the globe in splendid conquest.

As always, we recall the bravery of our founder, Magus Anton Szandor LaVey, when he proclaimed the formation of this Devil’s Fane in the Year One, shaping a fortress against the rampant mediocrity and mysticism of that turbulent time. His concept reached back into the vault of history to encompass those past iconoclasts whose commitment to carnality established an archetype that found deepest expression in the emergence of the Church of Satan.

We offer a special invocation this year commemorating the Anglo-American diabolist confluence found in the friendship between Sir Francis Dashwood and Benjamin Franklin. These two earthy libertines and their circle of fellow masters of the world laid formidable foundations assuring the future of an Infernal liberty of which we are the proud inheritors.

Anton LaVey Tribute Bust

The Anton LaVey bust is a tribute to the founder of the Church of Satan, an amazing and brilliant writer , musician, magician and a great influence on all of here at the House of Netherworld. The foremost author of horror literature is realized for the ages in this exquisite bust from Arkham Studios, sculpted by Reverend Bryan Moore.

Longtime fans of HP Lovecraft, the artists at Arkham Studios have crafted the quintessential sculpture of the Old Gent from Providence.

Standing approximately 12 inches high, the expertly sculpted countenance of HP Lovecraft sits atop an antique style base with curved scrolls and filigrees, not unlike the aesthetic of Lovecraft himself. At the face of the base is a small plaque which reads “I Am Providence” and signed in Lovecraft’s own signature beneath.

Lovecraft fans may note that “I Am Providence” was originally written by Lovecraft to a friend describing his love for his hometown and is now his epitaph on his tombstone. Centuries ago in an obscure tome entitled “The Gospel According To St. Anthony”, Satan himself used these very words to tempt St. Anthony. Knowing Arkham Studios’ penchant for all things Satanic, it’s no surprise that this classic portrait of Lovecraft fits right in with their dark repertoire of occult, horror, and literary figures.

As each year passes the structure being built on the mighty foundation of your creation continues to rise in typhonian splendor. The deep intuitions that informed your choices reached a flash point and a blazing inferno was ignited so properly in the name of Satan, god of the flesh and apt avatar for we carnal iconoclasts. Thus the Church of Satan blossomed like the dread mushroom cloud, shattering the occultnik meanderings and pagan pulings which passed at that time for alternatives to the Nazarene milksop and his pallid spiritual brethren.

He meant this as a gift to his kin, we who are born to the nature of the gentleman-beast, who reconcile civilization and savagery as we are in tune with our nature and see the workings of society and Nature with utmost clarity. We accept his offering, embracing the moniker of Satanist with pride, but moreover we acknowledge this as a truthful insight into precisely who and what we are.

And on this anniversary of the birth of Magus Anton Szandor LaVey, we affirm our commitment to maintain the clarity of his thinking, refusing to let those sloppy devil fans and shabby coattail riders sully the integrity of our rational, atheistic, and dramatic philosophy.

Last Rites Gallery Brings the New York Art World Over to the Dark Side

On April 5th, the New York art scene is going to get a lot darker. Legendary painter and tattoo artist Paul Booth, of Last Rites Tattoo Theatre, is opening up NYC's only gallery devoted to the macabre, erotic and surreal.

Last Rites Gallery's inaugural show, Transgression, curated by gallery director Genevive Zacconi, showcases artists ranging from internationally renowned sculptor and Alien designer HR Giger to classical oil painter Shawn Barber, to tattoo-artist Vincent Castiglia, whose beautifully rendered watercolors are painted in his own blood. Designed to provoke thoughts and shatter taboos, Transgression will introduce viewers to 31 artists who change what we think art is.

About Last Rites Owner Paul Booth:

A tattoo artist for nearly two decades and a painter for years before that, Paul Booth has devoted his life to the evolution of his craft. In the tattoo industry, after years of public appearances and numerous international awards, Paul Booth is now a household name. Am I the only one that thinks a human smile looks defensive, in the same way a dog looks when it’s kicked? I doubt it. I have to doubt it…. When I retreat to my humble abode and paint I find that a wave of relief washes over me. The stress of conformity drifts away, the stress of required responses and greetings... here in my world, I see form as subservient to content, and function is King. As masturbation, the function is therapeutic. As sex, the function is hypnotism. I need to make others see how I see. And I think they do, and we all think we’re the only ones, trying to banish what others would call bizarre or evil from our thoughts. And we walk along the streets and show our teeth to our neighbors and use the shield of program like a condom for interaction.”

Friday, March 21, is Good Friday, Purim and a full moon. The day before is the first day of Spring. What better way to transcend all this mythological mishigosh than by seeing a band that takes its name from the Greek goddess of discord? That band is Radio Eris.

Described by the venerable Mr. Amorosi as “Philadelphia’s post everything band,” Radio Eris’ performance at Germ will focus on their ambient/ethereal aspect, with each of their 5 members placed in a strategic corner of the room. Visitors to Germ will thus enter a sonic Pentagon and the show will sound slightly different depending on where you stand or sit. It’s kind of like Stockhausen’s string quartet for four helicopters, except that Germ is not a soccer stadium and Radio Eris will be playing guitars, synths, pedals and exotic percussion. And the only helicopters will be the psychedelic bionic butterfly variety conjured by shamanic vocalist Lora Bloom (and guest vocalist, the poet Bonnie MacAllister).

This is a one of a kind concert from a one of a kind group. 7PM.

This is the Alchemy symbol for Brimstone / Sulfur made popular as a
Satanic symbol because of its use in The Satanic Bible by Anton Szandor
LaVey as the seal placed above the 9 Satanic statements. Symbolically
it can also be related to the tree of life with the figure eight (the
twisted Ouroborous forever swallowing its tail or Leviathan) symbolizing
infinity and the eternal motion of creation evolution and destruction
and as well the strong deep roots of the Ygdrassil tree. The 5 branches
symbolize the 5 senses of course (seeing, hearing, touching, tasting ,
smelling) with the center shaft representing the trunk of the tree or if
you will the human spine connecting all. In essence, one must know where
one comes from and must have firm roots planted deep in earthy darkness
before one “should” sprout the branches ascending to what is undefiled
wisdom. Without strong roots there can be no lasting branches for when
they reach too high the foundation collapses and the tree dies.

Mixing lowbrow and fine art elements, David Aronson’s work ranges from whimsical to fantastic, from highly stylized to realistically rendered. Thematically delving into realms of mythology and psychology, the artist says his first intention is to allow “the subconscious mind, the deeper hidden portion of the psyche to express itself” without self-censorship. “Psychic wholeness is achieved by allowing the ‘dark’ elements of my psyche to move into the conscious light of day.” His images often gain their power as embodiments of the hidden language of dream and myth—the hidden language of the psyche.

Aronson’s drawings, paintings and illustrations combine traditional media such as watercolor, ink, graphite and colored pencil with digital media and digital collage. He has created art for CD covers, music posters and tour t-shirts, and is also an oil painter with several public and private commissions. His digital animation has been featured on MTV2 and Fuse and his drawings were featured regularly in BigNews, the New York journal of art and literature, as well as being exhibited nationally in galleries and museum shows. As an art teacher in several media, he works with both children and adults, and was once the sole owner and operator of a small art school in the Philadelphia suburbs. He is also a certified hypnotherapist and a published poet.
